Todd is an enormous asset to our team. He was a competitive swimmer for 22 years with successes including:
- Olympic Trials qualified and finished top 16 3 times 1984, 1988, 1992
- USA Nationals qualified nine years, best finish 4th place 400 IM
- Full Scholarship University of Arizona 1984 - 1988
- NCAA All American 1987 • USA Junior National Team 1984 - 1985
- Ranked top 15 in the USA and top 25 in the world 1984 - 1988 and 1991 - 1992
Todd has coached all swimming levels from learn to swim through high school and on to national levels. Some of Todd's most cherished coaching accomplishments include sending athletes to Olympic trials and Division 1 colleges, students breaking national group records and being recognized on the 2017/2018 National Junior Team Coaches List. But he'll be the first to say, his biggest accomplishment has been teaching children to love and be safe in the water. With Todd's expertise in coaching and long history of success in the swimming world, we've seen our HVST family go from strength to strength.
Tom is no stranger to our League. He swam on Newport Hills Swim Team from the age of 5 to 18 years old where he set many swim records and won SCSC championship races.
At CDMHS, he was an All American swimmer and CIF Finalist and All-CIF water polo player. Taking his swimming and water polo to the next level, he played water polo at UCSB for three years and then two years at UC Irvine from where he graduated.
Tom has been Head Coach for boys swimming at University HS where he was named the 2012 OC Register’s Coach of the Year for Swimming. He was also Head Varsity Swim Coach at Sage Hill, Head Girls Varsity Water Polo Coach at University HS and Head Boys Water Polo Coach at Sage Hill.
Tom is thrilled to be part of the HVST family as some of his best childhood memories are being part of the neighborhood swim team where he made lifelong friendships!
Ben was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Canada. He graduated from Minnesota State University in 2010 where he swam varsity and earned a BSc in Exercise Physiology. Ben swam competitively for 14 years and is the current Minnesota State record holder in the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly. During his college tenure, he earned ten NCAA II All-American awards and is an NCAA II medalist in 100 fly and 100 backstroke. He competed in the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly and 100 freestyle at the 2008 Canadian Olympic Trials, placing 23rd in the 100 butterfly.
Ben began coaching in 2004 with the British Columbia Summer Swimming Association for seven seasons. During the last three, he served as Head Coach of the Comox Valley Blue Devils. He currently coaches the Pre Senior group and the Masters group for SOCAL Aquatics in Tustin. He has his ASCA Level II coaching certification.
When not coaching, Ben enjoys riding his motorcycle, exploring new places, camping, surfing, mountain biking, and enjoying the Southern California sun!
Maye is a master of teaching in and out of the water. Coach Maye obtains a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Development with a minor in Psychology. Maye also has experience working with children with disabilities from working within an elementary school in a moderate to severe special education classroom (2018-2022).
Coach Maye was taught how to swim by Coach Todd and eventually began swimming at six years old. She swam competitively for USA swimming until she was 18 years old and eventually transitioned into being a USA Swimming Coach in 2017.
Coach Maye joined Harbor View Swim Team in 2013 as a junior coach and a swimmer. Since then she has continued coaching for HVST since 2017. Some of Coach Mayes accomplishments include:
- 3x Division 2 CIF Champion
- 2016 California High School State Champion
- 4 x CIF Qualifier and Finalist
- High School Swim Team Captain
- HVST Record Holder
- Sectional and JR National Finalist
Maye loves all things cosmetics and beauty, her family, her two dogs Ozzie & Lola, shopping and weekend getaways with her husband!
Stephanie is a port street native who gained a love for swimming and teaching! She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Social Behavior, with a Minor in Education at UC Irvine. Stephanie also has her Teaching Credential and Master of Science in Special Education and teaches young students on the Autism Spectrum.
Stephanie’s swimming career first started at Harbor View at the age of 4 and still has some HVST records! Stephanie had an accomplished swimming career including:
- U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier 2004, 2008 in 200 meter breaststroke
- U.S. Nationals Qualifier and top 16
- 2006 National Jr. Team member
- Junior National Champion in 200 meter breaststroke
- Ranked Top 16 in the U.S. in multiple events
- Multiple CIF Champion titles - 200 IM, 100 Breaststroke
- Big West Conference Finalist 2009 - UC Irvine
- Sectionals Champion and record holder in 200 meter Breaststroke
Stephanie has been coaching swimming for almost 20 years working with swimmers as young as 6 months old to high school aged, including swimmers with disabilities. She coached the Corona del Mar High School swim team for 8 years, and Harbor View Swim team for 10+ years! She has really enjoyed coaching back at the swim team where she first learned how to swim and share her passion to young hopeful swimmers.
In her leisure, she loves spending time with her family, weekend getaways, gardening, thrifting, and playing with her daughter.
Coach Kate is working towards a Degree in Applied Mathematics at UC Berkeley, and has experience coaching and teaching kids of all ages! Kate was our head Sports Camp Counselor in 2021 and has worked as an HVST lifeguard for four years. She was also an Age Group Swim Coach and lifeguard at Big Canyon Country Club. Coach Kate was taught how to swim by her mom, the Corona del Mar girls swim coach in 2000, and began HVST at just three years old! She swam with the dolphins until she was 18 and is excited to continue her journey as a coach!
