2023 Aquaman a big success

Good day Harborview Families,

Yesterday was Harborview’s is very own Aquaman! It was so great to see so many swimmers come out to compete. Aquaman is such a special event for all of us because we always have a great turn out just like yesterday; it’s an opportunity for our older swimmers to reconnect as many of them haven’t been able to do that since last summer. It’s a way for all of our younger swimmers and families two learn how to compete, make new friends, and perpetuate the bonds of friendship that the Aquaman event has the ability to do. Over the years, I’ve talked to many families that tell me they became friends with some of their best family friends through swim team and they met for the very first time at Aquaman. I hope that many of you will have that same great experience.

I was so proud of our 5/6’s. Many of them have never experienced an event like Aquaman. It’s always so great to see them compete; even though, they were nervous and a little scared, they somehow, in their own way, found a way to have the courage to stand up and race. It was awesome to see the 7/8’s race like season veterans with confidence and poise and compete like champions! The 9/10’s and 11/12’s are the backbone of our team. So great to see them compete, especially since I taught many of them how to swim in our polliwog program! How time fly’s and how quick they learn!

Our 13 & older’s are always very special. Many have gone on to other endeavors, other sports, their time is limited, yet they still find time to come back and support Harborview and their community for the summer. They are no longer pushed by parents to compete so their involvement is from their heart. I am so grateful for them and their continued support.

I want to say thank you to all the HVST board and volunteers who helped at the meet this weekend. Your involvement is more impactful than you know! Without you, the volunteers, we would never be able to run our meets or function properly as a team; on a much more important note, your involvement directly effects your own children. Volunteering gives your own children confidence, encouragement and support; It’s been proven when children see you, their parents, engaged in their sport they too will be engaged and motivated to do well.

I would like to thank our sponsors who have so graciously supported and donated so much to Harborview and our community. I encourage everyone to take a look at our banners at meets and the front page of our website and recognize Harborviews’ incredible list of partners. Thank your for your support of our community and swim team.

Finally, I would like to say thank you to all the coaches. Their dedication and hard work help orchestrate and engineer the children at the meets, and their constant daily hard work to get the kids to swim faster and more efficiently through the season.

Please remember, our first dual meet will be in two weeks against our cross neighborhood rivals Newport Hills. It is always a tough, hard fought contested meet so we will need everyone that Saturday to compete and do their best.

I encourage everyone to take time to go to our website share with your children their swims, their times, set goals for the summer. Setting your children up for success is so important. Goals will help them improve their technique and track their times over the summer. Thank you and see you at the pool soon!

Go dolphins!
